Prof. Dr. Koen Lombaerts

Koen Lombaerts, PhD in Educational sciences, is chairman of the Department of Educational Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel; head of the research group BILD (Brussels research centre on Innovation in Learning and Diversity) and head of the interuniversity research alliance IDEA (Innovation in Diversity and Educational Approaches; VUB-UGhent). His expertise deals with the development and implementation of innovative learning environments within formal and informal educational settings. A central focus in his research is clarifying learner needs when designing learning and e-learning environments, taking into account the impact of self-regulatory skills of the individual.
Koen Lombaerts is currently promotor of a large number of Ph.D.’s within this domain and published several peer-reviewed articles in highly esteemed international scientific journals on the aforementioned topics. Furthermore, professor Lombaerts is the promotor for two IWT-SBO projects (ALO! Online and blended learning in adult education; Teaching in the bed of Procrustes Learning environments to tackle school drop-out), an Erasmus+ KA3 Forward Looking Cooperation Project (Teacher Mobile Application for Innovative Learning), Erasmus+ KA2 projects and several Flemish governmental projects in the domain of educational innovation.
