Beat Signer, Ph.D. in Computer Sciences, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and co-director of the WISE (Web and Information Systems Engineering) research group. He received his PhD degree from ETH Zurich in 2005, where he has subsequently been leading the Interactive Paper lab as a senior researcher for 4 years. He is investigating cross-media information spaces and architectures, interactive paper and augmented reality solutions as well as multimodal and multi-touch interaction frameworks. His research interests further include human-information interaction, technologyenhanced learning, document engineering, ubiquitous and tangible computing as well as personal information management.
Beat Signer published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed international conferences and journals. Further, as work package coordinator he participated in the European Paper++ (IST- 2000-26130) and PaperWorks (FP6-516895) research projects. In the context of this proposal, the currently running projects on A Unified Perspective on Personal Cross-Media Information Management (IWT PhD scholarship) the MindXpres presentation platform, as well as a Context Modelling Toolkit (CMT), are of high relevance.
