Dr. Joachim Vlieghe, Ph.D. in Educational Studies, was a member of the department of Computer Sciences and the research group WISE. He obtained his Ph.D at Ghent University in 2014, where he worked as a principal investigator for the Literacy work package of the IWT-SBO project EMSOC (User-Empowerment in as Social Media Culture) from 2011 until 2014. After the completion of the project, he relocated to the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where he joined the WISE research group as a post-doctoral research fellow.
Joachim Vlieghe has published numerous papers and articles in academic conference proceedings and high-end peer-reviewed journals such as New Media & Society and First Monday. As a senior researcher, Joachim co-supervised the work of PhD students Frederik Van Broeckhoven, Edgar Guitierrez Cebolledo and Pejman Sajjadi whose research projects align with WISE’s focus on tools for design and fast prototyping of adaptive serious games and innovative e-learning systems. Finally, Joachim was also a member of the doctoral guidance committee of Jaël Muls (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, department of Educational Studies) whose research focuses on social media use in secondary education practices. He worked on the project from 1/02/2016 till 31/01/2017
