Maxim was born in Belgium in 1995. After graduating from his Bachelor in Applied Computer Science at the Erasmushogeschool Brussels (2016) with great distinction, he earned his Master of Science in Applied Computer Science at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2019), also with great distinction. His Master's thesis was on Indoor Navigation by Centralized Trackingand led to his further career as a PhD student researching hybrid positioning systems and interoperability of positioning systems under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Beat Signer. Maxim is actively involved in the development of the open source hybrid positioning system OpenHPS, which was released in 2020. In 2023, he released the SemBeacon Bluetooth Low Energy specification which creates semantic beacons to track and describe persons, objects and environments. He defended his PhD titledInteroperable and Discoverable Indoor Positioning Systems on the 30th of June, 2025.
Maxim now works as a Technical Team Lead via Vlaanderen connect. where he continues to apply his passion for interoperable systems to the existing systems.
